Prof. Henry Jarrod (Vincent Price) is a serious artist who has devoted his talent to making figures for a museum of wax historical figures. His partner decides to set the museum on fire to collect the insurance money. But when Jarrod catches him in the act, he tries to stop him. They fight and Jerrod is left to die. Many years later he returns to open his own wax museum. His hands were so badly burned, he cannot sculpt as he once could. Yet he is determined to rebuild the wax museum. Without the skill he once had, he insanely uses the stolen bodies from the morgue as the base for his new wax figures. His insanity is made worse when his collection is incomplete without a figure of Marie Antoinette. He becomes obsessed with Sue Allen (Phyllis Kirk) as the perfect model for the figure. She is the girlfriend of Scott Andrews (Paul Picerni) who works for Jarrod. Andrews must learn the secret of Jarrod's ghastly figures and save his girlfriend from becoming one of them.
